SAFEGUARDING POLICY

Introduction

Leigh Cookery School is dedicated to the safety and welfare of all children attending our cooking classes. This policy outlines our safeguarding measures in compliance with UK safeguarding legislation.

Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and anyone working on behalf of Leigh Cookery School.

Key Principles

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Oversees safeguarding practices, provides support, and ensures compliance with this policy.

  • Staff and Volunteers: All individuals must undergo safeguarding training, comply with this policy, and report concerns to the DSL.

Recruitment and Training

  • Background Checks: All staff must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

  • Training: Mandatory safeguarding training for all staff, with regular updates.

Safeguarding During Classes

  • Secure Environment: Enforce no-spectator policy; only paying clients or approved support persons may attend.

  • Guided Equipment Use: Instructions and guidance on safe use of equipment provided to minimise risk.

Recognising and Reporting Concerns

  • Signs of Abuse: Staff are trained to be vigilant for signs of abuse.

  • Reporting: Any concerns must be reported to the DSL immediately, with action taken as necessary, including contact with relevant authorities.

Confidentiality and Information Sharing

  • Confidentiality: Safeguarding concerns are handled confidentially and shared only as needed.

  • Information Sharing: When required, information is shared with authorities in line with data protection and safeguarding laws.

Monitoring and Review

  • Policy Review: Annual or as-needed reviews ensure policies remain effective.

  • Feedback: Feedback from clients and staff is encouraged to improve safeguarding practices.
